You bring the spark.
We fan the flame.
Just because you’re amazing at what you do, doesn’t mean you know how to talk about it. That’s where we come in.
We are listeners, translators, wordsmiths, and creators.
Our work isn’t about our words and messages, it’s about yours—carefully chosen, intentionally delivered.

Approach
To show the world who you are and why it matters, we invest an inordinate amount of time in capturing voice and urgency. We see around corners and tend to every detail, illuminating fresh approaches to storytelling and fundraising. We care less about writing than we do about getting things right.
We don’t stop until we know we have it, because the power of an honest story - told well - can create great change.

about
Jennifer Pitts, Founder
Jennifer Pitts is a leading expert in storytelling, fundraising, executive communications, and event design, whose work has helped generate over $500 million dollars for non-profit and philanthropic causes to date. Prior to founding Matchstick Communications, Jennifer focused her efforts on poverty alleviation in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City. She served as Managing Director of Communications, Events, and Development at Tipping Point Community and spent four years working on special initiatives and events at the Robin Hood Foundation. Jennifer has guest lectured at UC Berkeley and Stanford and has trained social sector leaders nationally. She earned a BA in English from Santa Clara University and received her Master’s in Teaching from Western Washington University. Jennifer lives in San Francisco with her husband, two children and their dog, Banjo. Red lipstick is her life-hack.
About the Art: At the height of the pandemic in 2020, Matchstick partnered with the Svane Family Foundation to create Ark, a historic collection of 100 new works curated for auction. The SFF invested $1M in supporting local San Francisco Bay Area artists —including this piece by San Francisco artist Emilio Villalba.
